History

After my first degree in Management & Media, I worked in the Telecoms industry for 6 years as a successful sales manager dealing with some of the country’s major telecoms suppliers such as Lucent, AVAYA, CISCO and Mitel on a regular basis, providing high end, complete voice and data networking solutions to SMEs as well as some of the country’s largest companies.

At the end of 2002 I decided that I needed a change of direction in my life. Fortunately, I was in a financial position to be able to take a year out, and after a lot of soul-searching, I decided that the thing I had most enjoyed about my previous career was the training of new staff and customers. The response I received when I provided this training was, on the whole, positive, indeed, some companies would say to me, “We aren’t going to buy from you, because we can’t afford it (the phone system), but now you’ve explained it, we finally understand what it is we need” . To this end it became something of a fait accompli that teaching was my way forward.

In 2003 I was interviewed for a place on and enrolled on the PG. Cert. Ed in Post-Compulsory Education at BCU (formerly UCE), and from January to December of 2004 I studied for this qualification and worked in the prison education sector.

After qualifying, I worked in several education settings, mainly in Further Education colleges, and in October 2005 I started work at South Birmingham College, Birmingham, UK; which is where taught and was an Assistant Director for another 6 years. My first day at SBC being noted mainly by the fact the college was in the middle of an Ofsted inspection and an inspector observed my lesson that same morning. I received excellent feedback and got a good grading for my lesson and when he asked me how long I’d worked at the college, for some reason he thought I was joking when I said, “Three hours”.

A little bit more …

I’m your average guy, I like;

  • Golf
  • The Gym
  • Gadgets and Technology
  • Watching TV and movies
  • Going out with friends
  • Going to see live bands and most music
  • and much much more I’m sure…

Golf …

And I play golf, albeit very badly, but hopefully that will improve. I used to play in my early teens, but then like a lot of guys that age, decided a good idea would be to sell my golf clubs and buy a guitar; what a mistake-a to make-a. Anyway after an almost 20-year sabbatical took the sport up again and thoroughly love it again.
