I’m sick of hearing so called Labour supporters accusing their own MPs of being Tory-Lite, or Red Tories, so let’s have a look at the policy achievements post ’97 and someone tell me which ones were Tory ones then;

  • Minimum Wage?
  • Sure Start Centres?
  • Child Tax Credits?
  • Working Tax Credits?
  • Banning Fox Hunting?
  • Building New Hospitals?
  • Building Schools for the Future?
  • Widening Participation in Higher Education?
  • Employing more Doctors?
  • Employing more Nurses?
  • Employing more Firefighters?
  • Running lower budget deficits than the previous 18 years?

Which of these ‘Blairite’ policies are the Tory ones that the previous Labour government copied without socialist principles exactly?

Or are the people saying this simply really ignorant of UK politics and thinking that it was better when the Labour party was in opposition and Thatcher was in power? In actual fact do you just want a Tory government instead? I think it’s you who are not socialist enough, I think it is you who are doing more damage to the poor and vulnerable in society, because no march, no protest and no decade in opposition has ever got them jobs, health care or financial support.
